CALM Workshop May 2022

CALM WORKSHOP 2022

Third CALM Workshop, 17–19 May 2022

CALM – the PhD Training Collaboration in the Contemporary History of Global Europe jointly organized by the University of Cambridge and LMU Munich – started a new round of workshops with its second cohort of PhD students. After the pandemic had prevented in-person meetings for the previous cohort, all participants were excited to meet face-to-face. Fourteen PhD students (seven from each university) and five more senior scholars met at the University of Cambridge to discuss whether and how contemporary European history can be re-thought and researched in the light of new perspectives from global and transnational history.

At the heart of the workshop lay the four panel sessions set up to provide the participants with a platform to present and discuss their ongoing research. The format of discussing precirculated papers provided time for a lively and productive exchange on each paper.

Building on the participants' research, a roundtable consisting of the senior scholars further explored the methods and approaches in contemporary history. The group is looking forward to continuing to collaborate on- and off-line.
