Giuliano Beniamino Fleri is SNSF Postdoc.Mobility Fellow at the Anthropology Department of Columbia University in the City of New York and Simon Veil Fellow at Project House Europe at LMU. His work has appeared, among others, in the Journal of Modern History and the Journal of Modern Italian Studies. His monograph, People among Nations: Migrations and Allegiances between Sicily and Tunisia (ca. 1900–1970), is forthcoming with Brill–De Gruyter in November 2026. He previously worked as a research assistant at the Geneva Graduate Institute and at the Records and Archives Section of the UNHCR.
He is a historian of migration and mobility, with a particular focus on the Euro-Mediterranean area from the colonial period to the present day. His research interests include the history of Italian emigration, the historical formation of contemporary European migration regimes, the history of refugee governance and international protection, and the post-1990 emergence and development of dangerous maritime routes across the Mediterranean.
